Bill Belichick, who is considered one of the best NFL coaches of all time, owns an array of records. He has the most Super Bowl wins as a head coach (six), all with the New England Patriots. He also has two rings as a defensive coordinator. This gives him a total of eight Super Bowl wins as a coach and a coordinator.

The Associated Press (AP) presents the NFL coach who has been deemed to have had the best season with the AP NFL Coach of the Year award each year. The awards have been given out since the 1957 season. The recipient has been revealed at the yearly NFL Honors presentation since 2011.

Bill Belichick has won the award three times (2003, 2007, and 2010). He shares this distinction with Chuck Knox. But with four AP NFL Coach of the Year victories throughout the course of his over three-decade head coaching career (three with the Baltimore Colts and one with the Miami Dolphins), Don Shula holds the record for the most awards.

In 2003, the Patriots finished the regular season with a league-best 14-2 record under Belichick and won their second championship game in three years after defeating the Carolina Panthers 32-29.

In 2007, under Belichick's guidance, the Patriots completed the first flawless regular season since the 16-game format was instituted in 1978. They became just the fourth franchise in league history to accomplish this feat after the Chicago Bears did it twice (1934 and 1942) and the Miami Dolphins did it in 1972.

The Patriots prevailed against the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-20 in the Divisional Round and overcame the San Diego Chargers 21-12 in the Championship Round. In Super Bowl XLII, however, they were beaten by the New York Giants.

En route to an unbeaten regular season, the Patriots established six NFL records, including the most points scored in a season.

In 2010, Bill Belichick guided the Patriots to the best regular season record (14-2) once again. The team considerably outperformed early expectations.
