Tackle Bruce Armstrong was the 23rd overall pick by the Patriots in 1987 and was the last one to have the team retire his number. He made six Pro Bowls and played in 212 games as a starter from 1987 to 2000. His #78 jersey number was retired after his career was over.
Tom Brady would be the first Patriots player since 2000 to have his #12 jersey retired and is easily the most deserving. Brady likely won't get the same treatment from the Buccaneers, but he has still made a lasting impact in Tampa Bay. It will also be interesting to see how long it takes New England to honor Brady after he left them out of his speech and who will induct Brady into the Hall of Fame.
