How many passing yards does Mac Jones average per game? Exploring Patriots QB's numbers

New England Patriots starting quarterback Mac Jones has averaged 219.3 passing yards per game in his career. The Alabama Crimson Tide alum is one of the best QBs from the 2021 NFL Draft class and was the first shot caller from his class to earn a Pro Bowl nod.

Jones was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft to replace Tom Brady, who led the team for almost two decades. In his rookie season, Jones led the Patriots to their first postseason appearance following Brady's departure.

However, Mac Jones suffered the proverbial sophomore slump, putting up career lows in the 2022 NFL season. One significant drop was in his average passing yards per game, from 223.6 in 2021 to 214.1 in 2022. He hopes to bounce back in the 2023 NFL season, which starts in September.

Potential landing spots for Mac Jones

According to reports, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been shopping around Jones in the 2023 offseason. This came as a surprise to Patriots fans and analysts. So, in anticipation of a possible blockbuster deal before the start of the 2023 NFL season, here are three possible destinations for the Alabama Crimson Tide alum. We will be ranking them from the lowest to most likely.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The last NFL home of the greatest quarterback to ever play in New England; sense a pattern here? The Bucs have one of the cheapest quarterback rooms in the NFL, and are only paying Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask now. That means they can absorb Mac Jones' rookie contract with minimal fuss.

Todd Bowles' conservative approach would likely mesh with Jones' style, which, like Brady, prioritizes quick reads. New coordinator Dave Canales would make for a solid accomplice after his 2022 work on Geno Smith.

2. Tennessee Titans

Another team with a New England Patriots connection and a team that is an elite QB away from competing. The Titans haven't shied away from scouting quarterbacks in this year's draft class, so it's clear that Ryan Tannehill's spot is far from secure. So, why wouldn't former New England Patriots standout Mike Vrabel not consider Mac Jones a worthwhile reclamation project? He'd be much cheaper than Tannehill, who could potentially still stick as the Week 1 starter, and he shares coach Mike Vrabel's Patriots roots.

1. Las Vegas Raiders

Josh McDaniels has created some sort of New England Patriots reunion in Las Vegas, signing Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian Hoyer this offseason. How about he completes the trifecta? Jones is as safe as a prospect and has impressive ball security skills.

Furthermore, Mac Jones could be kept waiting through 2025 on his rookie deal. His ties to team brass are undeniable: he was drafted No. 15 overall by New England when McDaniels was the Patriots' coordinator, and current Raiders GM Dave Ziegler served as Belichick's director of player personnel. It's only natural for Josh McDaniels to call his former boss about a disgruntled shot caller.
