Which teams are out of the playoffs race?
In total, seven teams have been eliminated from playoff contention.
The New York Jets didn't need any confirmation but they got it regardless after dropping yet another close game. The 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins means the Jets now have the longest active playoff drought in the NFL at 14 seasons, which is longer than any active streak in the NBA, MLB, NHL or WNBA.
The good news is that the offense looked a little more competent than it did over the last few weeks, so that is something to consider given the fact that the franchise will have a top-7 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Giants' 14-11 loss the the New Orleans Saints means they are also out of contention and will tussle it out with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders for the top pick in the draft.
Along with the Giants, Jets, Raiders and Jaguars, the Tennessee Titans were also knocked out of the race to play meaningful football in January. The 3-10 New England Patriots are also out given they are fourth in the AFC East. The Cleveland Browns are out as well after a 27-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
NFL Playoff Picture for Week 15
The Bills' 44-42 shootout loss to the LA Rams means the Chiefs will now likely take the top spot in the AFC seeding. As a result, Buffalo slips to the second seed with the Steelers, Texans, Chargers, Ravens and Broncos to follow.
The 6-7 Colts, second in the AFC South, have an outside chance of making the playoffs if they beat Denver in Week 15 and continue to win the rest of their slate. They also have the tiebreaker over the Dolphins after their Week 7 win, which could get pretty interesting.
Over in the NFC, the Detroit Lions (12-1) are the king of the jungle in what is shaping up to be a tense fight among the contenders. The 11-2 Eagles are the second seed followed by the Seahawks, Buccaneers, Vikings, Packers and Commanders.
The Falcons have a 4-1 division record and have the tiebreaker over the Bucs, so there is cause for optimism. All of the Cardinals, Rams and 49ers will have to win the NFC West to go through in the final four weeks of the regular season.
