In 2019, Ezekiel Elliott agreed to a six-year, $90 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The deal included guaranteed money throughout the initial three years. However, the remaining three years, meant to start in 2023, did not include any guarantees.

At a salary of $15,000,000 per year, Elliott was among the Dallas Cowboys' top-paid players. He received a salary of roughly $12.4 million in 2022. Before being cut, he was scheduled to stack up $16.4 million toward the 2023 salary ceiling with a non-guaranteed $10.4 million basic salary.

After being selected by the Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft, Zeke has earned a total of $70,596,145, according to OverTheCap. The total value of his four-year rookie contract, including the $16.3 million signing bonus, was $24.9 million.

The Cowboys saved $4.86 million by now releasing Elliott. They could have saved $10.9 million if they had cut him after June 1.

Will the Dallas Cowboys re-sign Ezekiel Elliott?

Many people anticipated the Dallas Cowboys' decision to let go of Ezekiel Elliott last month.

Most people believe Elliott needs to find a new place for his skills and experience as his productivity and burst looks to have slowed down since he signed a new contract with Dallas.

Nonetheless, it makes sense that the organization will be looking at another running back to assist Tony Pollard in the backfield. Even though Ronald Jones II has only recently signed a contract, it is difficult to assume he will be that player.

All things considered, it genuinely serves the Cowboys' interest to completely part ways with Ezekiel Elliott. Every time Elliott was tasked with carrying the ball instead of Pollard during the team's 2022 campaign, the potency of that play diminished.

Ezekiel Elliott is less effective as a catching outlet and lacks the explosion and durability he formerly possessed. He can only offer pass protection, a quality that can be replicated by other running backs throughout the league or in the draft.

The Cowboys would have to be willing to take a player who could perfectly match Pollard's quickness and slash technique. Several media publications have linked Derrick Henry to the Cowboys.
