Derek Carr has a new home with the New Orleans Saints after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Pro Bowl quarterback has signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints. Carr will therefore be earning an average of $37.5 million per year.

Carr's new contract includes $100 million of guaranteed money. He will get $70 million fully-guaranteed ($60 million at signing and a further $10 million in his third year), along with a $28.5 million signing bonus.

This isn't the first big contract that Carr has signed, but it's his first with a new team.

Derek Carr has earned a fortune in the NFL. Carr started his professional career in 2014 when he was selected with the 36th pick in the NFL draft. He was drafted by the then-Oakland Raiders and thus began an almost decade-long journey.

Carr's rookie deal earned him $5,371,801 over four years. Carr missed just two games in his first four seasons and threw for over twenty touchdowns every campaign.

After completing his rookie deal, the Las Vegas Raiders re-signed the Fresno State University legend to a five-year deal worth $125 million. The contract made Carr one of the best-paid players in the league, but he had an up-and-down time with the franchise thereafter.

While Carr did his best for the Raiders and took them to the playoffs in the 2021 season, he was released as they moved on from him.

Carr now plays for the New Orleans Saints, which might shift the dynamic of the NFC South. The Saints' front office clearly feels Carr could be the piece they need to enter postseason contention, as can be seen by his contract.
