The NFL has given Google the license to its Sunday Ticket bundle, a decision that expands the internet industry's march into broadcasting live-stream games.
NFL YouTube is getting a Sunday ticket. Following weeks of rumors, the league and Google formally confirmed their collaboration to webcast all out-of-market NFL games in the United States beginning in the 2023 season. In addition, both YouTube TV and YouTube's Primetime Network services will have access to the games.
This significant transition is part of a larger trend in which sports coverage is going digital and away from conventional television stations. Sunday Tickets has only been accessible via DirecTV's satellite service since its launch in 1994.
YouTube didn't officially disclose the price of Sunday tickets. As per Peter King of NBC Sports, the estimated price is around $300 for the entire season. For the 2022 campaign, DirecTV Sunday Ticket bundles started at $293.94.

That might seem like a steep cost to bear at first, but considering that the previous DirecTV offer adds up to about $400 throughout the five-month football season, excluding additional fees and the upfront costs related to setting up satellite TV, $300 might be a fair price.
How much will YouTube TV spend on NFL Sunday Ticket rights?
According to the Wall Street Journal, YouTube TV plans to pay nearly $2 billion per year for the NFL Sunday Ticket license. According to The New York Times, the transaction may be valued at up to $2.5 billion, depending on performance fees.
The ultimate agreement between DirecTV and the NFL, which covered 2014-2022, paid $1.5 billion annually.
The NFL and YouTube TV will enter into a seven-year agreement. Therefore, the license will be subject to further discussion before the 2030 football season.
Users can subscribe to "Sunday Ticket" as a separate service or add it to their YouTube TV, which charges $64.99 per month.
Do I need a YouTube TV subscription to access Sunday Ticket?
Google will have two ways to deliver Sunday tickets. One will be a supplement for YouTube TV. The firm's current streaming service for live TV costs $65 monthly and is geared towards cord-cutters without cable TV subscriptions. Another way football fans may also enjoy Sunday Tickets is by subscribing to a YouTube Primetime Channel package.
