The NFL playoffs are entering the final stretch, with only four teams left in contention to win the Super Bowl. While there is a lot of intrigue around the upcoming conference championship games, many are also curious to learn about the NFL MVP race.
Some also want to know about the MVP voting and the system behind the league's honor.

The NFL MVP voting is determined by 50 media members representing a cross-section of the country. The AP refers to the group of voters as a “nationwide panel of media.”
Each media member votes for their top five players for the MVP. A first-place vote holds 10 points, while a second-place vote accounts for five points. A third-place vote is worth three points, a fourth-place vote holds two points and a fifth-place vote gets the player one point.
The final points total is tallied, and the player who gets the most points is named the MVP. This points system for the MVP voting was introduced in 2022 and the league has followed the same procedure since then.
Before 2022, each voter could cast only a first-place vote. That method left the MVP race susceptible to ties if two players evenly split the 50 votes or if two players finished with the same number of majority votes.
With the new points system in place, first-place votes will still likely decide most races, but close MVP races could come down to second- or third-place votes, which hold different points.
Furthermore, each voter's picks are not made public. However, a wide range of individuals in NFL media have a say in determining the final panel of voters.
The voting for this year's MVP has already been completed. Hence, the playoff performances would not be taken into account for voting. Many believe that the MVP for this season will be either Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen or Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson.
This season's MVP will be announced on Feb. 6, at 9 p.m. EST at Saenger Theatre in New Orleans.
