CFL 2024: Calgary Stampeders vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats preview
The Calgary Stampeders had an underwhelming 2023 CFL season, finishing with a 6-13 overall record and losing in the West Division semifinal.
Coach Dave Dickenson spoke to reporters this week and insisted that his team is looking forward to opening the season well rather than focusing on last year's disappointing campaign.
“You guys love 2023," Dickenson said. “None of us were happy about it, but it’s a new team. My mom’s a history teacher, so if we don’t learn from the past, we’re going to basically make the same mistakes. So I do think you learn from it. But you’ve got to move forward."
The Stampeders have announced that Jake Maier will continue as their starting quarterback for the 2024 season. He threw for 4,244 yards and 19 touchdowns last year but also threw 15 interceptions.
Meanwhile, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats reached the playoffs last season after posting an 8-10 record. However, they suffered a 27-12 defeat to eventual Grey Cup champions Montreal Alouettes in the East Division semi-finals.
Bo Levi Mitchell will start as the Tiger-Cats' quarterback on Friday. The signal-caller will be playing against his former team, where he won two Grey Cups across an 11-year stint.
