Key players to watch in the New York Giants vs. Houston Texans game
The New York Giants and the Texans preseason game will likely feature many starters. Here's a look at a player on each team you should pay attention to ahead of the matchup:
Daniel Jones, Quarterback - New York Giants
Daniel Jones tore his ACL against the Las Vegas Raiders nine months ago. The former first-round draft pick has been cleared to participate in training activities.
According to the New York Giants website, Jones has taken every practice rep with the first-team offense during team drills. He might have been rested for the team's preseason opener, but coach Brian Daboll told reporters early this week that he expects Jones to play against the Houston Texans.
Daboll said:
"I have a plan but want to go through these three practices. We will talk about it as a coaching staff as the week progresses and end up talking with the players. I see Daniel playing. The plan is to play him."
Jones looked impressive in training camp and was ready to return to the gridiron.
Joe Mixon, Running Back - Houston Texans
Joe Mixon was a statement signing by the Texans in the 2024 offseason. The Pro Bowl running back knows something about breaching pesky defenses and will bring another dimension to an impressive Houston Texans' roster.
According to Yahoo Sports, Mixon has practiced for three days, and coach DeMeco Ryans wants players to get accustomed to live hits. That means Joe Mixon will play; it's just a question of how long he will be on the gridiron.
Expect Mixon to split carries with Cam Akers as he plays his way to full fitness. He should be a major part of how the Texans operate in the upcoming season.
