Hunter Renfrow has had an interesting career trajectory. Drafted in the fifth round by the then-Oakland Raiders in 2019, he slowly worked his way up the ranks to unexpectedly become the team's top wideout in 2021, amassing 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns in just nine starts – all career-highs.
But the Raiders wanted to recapture the Amari Cooper days and upgrade the position. So they traded for Davente Adams in the ensuing offseason. Then, in 2023, they acquired Jakobi Meyers in free agency.
Over the course of those two years (2022 and 2023), Renfrow precipitously lost playing time and stats, leading to his release ahead of 2024. But some teams may yet find him a viable signing...

#5. Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders already have a clear-cut WR1 in Terry McLaurin. But with no trade for Brandon Aiyuk seemingly happening, their next-best wideout will be Jahan Dotson, who has been solid in his two seasons so far.
However, WR3 is a bit of a mess with the likes of Dyami Brown, Olamide Zacchaeus and Luke McCaffrey having a legitimate shot. Perhaps another Pro Bowler could enter the conversation.
#4. Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are in a state of offensive flux. On one hand, their ground game is secure, as former Baltimore Ravens Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins have followed offensive coordinator Greg Roman to Inglewood.
On the other hand, their aerial game is a mess. Keenan Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears. Mile Williams was released. That leaves Josh Palmer and D.J. Chark as the veterans in an increasingly young core. Could Renfrow add some more depth to that?
#3. Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have a potential dominator in Marvin Harrison Jr. on their hands – a dynamo who is capable of delivering monstrous numbers. But whom else do they have at WR?
Rondale Moore, who could have been a good complement, is gone. They did get Zay Jones after his release by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they need more firepower. Renfrow could provide just that.
#2. Minnesota Vikings
Now here is a place where Hunter Renfrow could truly shine.
The Minnesota Vikings found a gem at WR2 when K.J. Osborn broke out in 2021. He soon became a key secondary player in the team, keeping the role even as then-rookie Jordan Addison eclipsed him in 2023.
But he has since left for the New England Patriots, and WR3 needs a proven commodity. Luckily, there is someone available whom they could approach.
#1. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers currently have among the poorer WR rotations in the NFL.
One-time Pro Bowler Diontae Johnson left for the Carolina Panthers via trade, leaving only George Pickens as the budding star in a group of relative no-names. That is why they have been wanting Brandon Aiyuk to join the roster.
But they also need a contingency plan should a trade not happen, and Hunter Renfrow could be just that for them.
