Aaron Rodgers’ dream of appearing in another Super Bowl came narrowly short when the Green Bay Packers lost to the Seattle Seahawks on January 18, 2015, at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington. The game took a dramatic turn at the end as the Seahawks stunned the Packers from 7-19 with two minutes on the clock, to a 28-22 victory in the OT.

A disappointed Rodgers was interviewed over a radio show soon after, which was covered by the LA Times on January 20, 2015. Rodgers was asked if his confidence is shaken (in God) after such a loss.

“I don’t think God cares a whole lot about the outcome,” Rodgers said. “He cares about the people involved, but I don’t think he’s a big football fan.”

It was clear that Rodgers was disappointed. On the contrary, his counterpart, QB Russell Wilson, a proud Christian by faith, thanked God for the result.

“That’s God setting it up, to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special,” Wilson said, according to King. “I’ve been through a lot in life and had some ups and downs. It’s what’s led me to this day.”

Aaron Rodgers' dwindling faith in God

Aaron Rodgers was born into a Christian family, and he went to church on Sundays while growing up. When Rodgers was present on the media day before Super Bowl XLV, his only Super Bowl victory, Rodgers confirmed his belief in God when he said:

“I just try to follow Jesus’ example, leading by example.”

Years later, his stand took a drastic turn when he was interviewed by his former girlfriend, Danica Patrick, in Dec. 2019 on her "Pretty Intense" podcast. Once again, he was blunt about his viewpoint on religion and God.

“I don’t know how you can believe in a God who wants to condemn most of the planet to a fiery hell,” Rodgers said. “What type of loving, sensitive, omnipresent, omnipotent being wants to condemn his beautiful creation to a fiery hell at the end of all this?”

Later on in the same interview, he confirmed that he doesn’t identify himself as a Christian anymore. He confirmed the same to ESPN’s Mina Kimes during his interview in 2017 as well.
