Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are getting ready to start a new playoff run. Even though they aren't the No. 1 seed in the AFC this year, they look like a strong candidate to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs and win the Super Bowl LIX.
They have been in this position before, but Jackson and Co. haven't made it past the AFC Championship game. Ravens fans have high expectations for their wild-card round matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. If they win the game against their divisional rivals, Jackson will be closer to fulfilling a promise he made in 2021.
The former Louisville quarterback said in a 2021 episode of "The Lounge" that he would change from No. 8 to No. 1 if the Ravens won the Super Bowl.
"If we win the Super Bowl, I'm going to No. 1. ... I want to retire No. 8 and No. 1. I want to do that here at the Ravens."

After seven seasons in the NFL, Jackson is a two-time NFL MVP, three-time First-Team All-Pro and four-time Pro-Bowler, among other honors. He's been in the playoffs several times before, but plenty of fans and analysts believe he needs to deliver in the postseason to be an official member of the league's elite.
In 2021, Jackson missed out on the postseason. He made it to the big party the next season, but the Cincinnati Bengals sent them home in the first round of the playoffs. Last season, the Ravens secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, but the Kansas City Chiefs eliminated them in the AFC Championship game.
This year, they are ranked third in the AFC standings, meaning they would go against the No. 2 Buffalo Bills or No. 7 Denver Broncos in the divisional round.
Lamar Jackson names one reason why he underperforms in playoffs
Ahead of the Steelers duel, Lamar Jackson talked about his previous shortcomings. The former No. 32 overall pick blamed his postseason struggles on being too amped up for the games.
"Yes, I'm [usually] just too excited -- that's all," Jackson said, via the Ravens. "[I'm] too antsy, that's all. I'm seeing things before it happens, like, 'Oh, I have to calm myself down.' But just being more experienced, I've found a way to balance it out."
The Ravens don't carry the same expectations as last season, which could benefit against the Chiefs or Bills.
