The Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen are two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL currently and are known for their strong throwing arms. As Mahomes became a starter for the Chiefs in his second season, in 2018, the year Allen was drafted, it can be said that the two QBs started their NFL journey at around the same time.

The two talents were set to go against each other for the first time in Week 6 of the 2020 season, and the media was ready to hype the contest. So, when Patrick Mahomes appeared on the NFL Network’s "GMFB" show in August 2020, fans wanted more than just a game between them. They wanted to settle on the debate of who has a stronger arm. So, he responded:

“I think if I’m in a throw-off, in that situation, I’m going to throw it 80-plus yards,” Mahomes said. “I know I’m going to put that up there. I know that Josh Allen has got an arm, too; he can chuck it out there as well. If he can beat 80-83 yards, then he can beat me, but I’m going to put it out there; I promise you that.”

The debate ensued after the NFLPA released the ratings for its Madden games, and Mahomes was disappointed by them. While he received a rating of 97 for his arm strength, Allen received a 99. Surprisingly, this is contrary to what their NFL combine reports state.

Patrick Mahomes topped Josh Allen in 2020 season

Patrick Mahomes' NFL combine report in 2017 described him as "a big-league arm" athlete, courtesy of his father, former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes. Meanwhile, Allen was termed as "a late bloomer" in his combine report in 2018. Thus, a confident Mahomes was up for the challenge without any hesitation.

“I know that we kind of talked about it before. ... We might get something to happen in these future offseasons for sure,” Mahomes said.

The word soon reached Josh Allen, too, who confirmed his acceptance of the challenge via TMZ Sports in August 2020.

“We're working on it," Allen said of a potential competition Wednesday on "Good Morning Football" (via TMZ Sports). "I'd love to finally settle this and figure it out.”

Nevertheless, the matchup never took place, although the game settled in favor of the Mahomes-led Chiefs by a score of 26-17.
