Calvin Johnson's NFL Career
Detroit was Calvin Johnson's home throughout his entire nine-year NFL career. Johnson left his imprint despite his tenure coming to a premature end. When he retired, he held the record for most catches in team history (731) for 11,619 yards and 83 receiving touchdowns. Johnson holds the NFL record with 1,964 receiving yards in a single season in 2012. The highest average in the Super Bowl era is his 122.8 receiving yards per game during that season.
Johnson knew that 2015 would be his final year playing in the NFL long before he retired. According to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com, Johnson admitted that after the Detroit Lions' contentious playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys in January 2015, he contemplated hanging up his cleats.
He made this statement at his football camp in Michigan in 2016. The three-time All-Pro wide receiver claims he wanted to end his career with another team, but the Lions wouldn't let him leave.
