The Green Bay Packers face a crucial Week 17 showdown against the Minnesota Vikings with playoff positioning hanging in the balance. However, they'll likely take the field without one of their most explosive offensive weapons.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday that wide receiver Christian Watson is "unlikely to play today against the Vikings." This is due to a knee injury he suffered during Monday night's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Watson's anticipated absence deals a significant blow to the Packers' passing attack. The third-year receiver has posted 620 receiving yards this season, ranking second on the team despite catching just 29 passes. His remarkable 21.4 yards per reception lead all Packers receivers.

The injury initially appeared minor, with coach Matt LaFleur describing it as "nothing more than a knee bruise" earlier in the week. Watson didn't practice throughout the week but was listed as questionable, leaving a glimmer of hope for his availability.
His status won't become official until 90 minutes before the 4:25 p.m. ET/3:25 p.m. CT kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Packers' playoff hopes rest on a depleted roster amid Christian Watson's status
Green Bay enters this NFC North battle with mounting injury concerns other than Christian Watson. The Packers will miss cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee), leading tackler Quay Walker (ankle), safety Evan Williams (quad) and OL Andre Dillard (concussion).
Despite these setbacks, the Packers' receiving corps runs deep. Quarterback Jordan Love will target a young but capable group led by Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks. The Packers also welcome tight end Luke Musgrave back into the offensive mix behind Tucker Kraft.
The stakes couldn't be higher for Green Bay's playoff outlook. Currently holding the No. 6 seed with an 11-4 record, the Packers could climb to the No. 5 spot with a victory, potentially securing a home game in the first round. A loss, however, might drop them to the No. 7 seed, tying them with the Washington Commanders and forcing a tougher road through the postseason.
The Vikings (13-2) have their motivations, as a win could strengthen their grip on home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. With both teams already playoff-bound, this matchup could preview a potential postseason rematch.
