Is Damar Hamlin playing tonight? Update on the Buffalo Bills safety

Buffalo Bills v New England Patriots
Safety Damar Hamlin #3 of the Buffalo Bills walks off the field after being ejected for a hit on wide receiver Jakobi Meyers #16 of the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on December 01, 2022 in Foxborough, Massachusetts

Damar Hamlin will not be playing in the Buffalo Bills' AFC Wild Card Playoff game against the Miami Dolphins. The second-year safety has been placed on Injured Reserve after suffering a cardiac arrest in the Bills' Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin had a fantastic sophomore season, his first as a true starter for the Bills, before disaster struck against the Bengals. The Pittsburgh University alum suffered a cardiac arrest after making a routine tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Following the unfortunate incident, the game was suspended and subsequently canceled.

Since then, the NFL and the sports world have rallied for the 24-year-old safety. He has received an outpouring of love via prayers, donations, and sincere good wishes. All this happened while Damar fought for his life in a Cincinnati hospital. Thankfully, his situation improved, and he was eventually released from the hospital a few days ago.

Hamlin will support his side from home, with the Bills gunning for a win to take a step closer to the Super Bowl.

Damar Hamlin's Fantasy Outlook

Damar Hamlin had a solid second season as a safety for the Buffalo Bills, who took a chance on him after he was selected 212th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Hamlin has developed a reputation as a hard worker and strong tackler, earning a significant increase in snaps in his second year as a Bill.

This season, the Pittsburgh University alum ranked as the 46th-best defensive back in the league based on points. It is also important to note that Hamlin played a mere 15 games, which pales in comparison to most other players in his position. Bills fans and the rest of the NFL will hope Hamlin recovers completely in subsequent months, as life comes before any activities on the Gridiron.

How did Damar Hamlin perform this season?

Damar Hamlin had a solid second season in the National Football League. Hamlin didn't play like someone drafted in the sixth round of the NFL draft, but rather like a player that belonged in the upper echelons.

His stats tell the tale, as Hamlin improved in leaps and bounds when compared to his first season in the league. This season, Hamlin put up a stat line of 91 tackles (65 solo and 28 assisted). He made 1.5 sacks and forced one fumble as well.
