Few expected the New Orleans Saints to start the 2024 NFL season on a roll but the National Football League has a way of tempering hot streaks. After starting the season 2-0 and piling up 91 points against the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, the Saints were humbled in three straight games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs.
The last of those matchups dealt the Saints another major blow after Derek Carr's MRI after the game revealed he had suffered an oblique injury.
"It wasn't like dealing with pain. I just can't do what I want to do," Carr told reporters after the game.
With the Saints set to go up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this afternoon, the franchise has already ruled Derek Carr out for Week 6.

Is Derek Carr playing today?
The Saints will have to make peace with Carr missing the next few weeks of action, especially given they will have a short turnaround after Week 6.
After the Buccaneers game, the Saints will grace the Thursday Night Football schedule when they host the Denver Broncos on Oct. 17.

While the belief was that Jake Haener would take over from Carr after his oblique injury, the Saints moved quickly to name Spencer Rattler as the starter despite Haener replacing Carr in Monday’s loss to the Chiefs. Rattler served as the emergency third quarterback for the primetime showdown.
The Saints picked Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The South Carolina alum completed 20 of his 38 passes for 202 yards and registered a touchdown in preseason.
New Orleans Saints injury report
Apart from Carr, the Saints have a few more injury issues to deal with for Sunday afternoon. Tight end Taysom Hill has been ruled out with a rib injury while guard Cesar Ruiz is also ruled out with a knee injury.
Alvin Kamara and Rashid Shaheed also popped up on the injury report with hip injuries but both are expected to suit up against Tampa Bay.
