Henry Ruggs was taken 12th overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2020 NFL draft. Ruggs was one of the most promising wide receiver prospects in his draft class and seemed destined for a lengthy career in the league.

Ruggs was involved in a crash that killed a 23-year-old woman and her dog on 2 November 2021. Henry Ruggs was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving for the incident. Ruggs was reported to have been driving his at 156 mph seconds before the crash, while the vehicle decelerated to 127 mph when the airbags were deployed. The Las Vegas Raiders released Ruggs later on November 2, 2021.

Ruggs posted $150,000 bail so is not currently incarcerated. He is being monitored electronically under conditions set by a judge.

Will Henry Ruggs ever play in the NFL again?

The first thing to note here is that Henry Ruggs has posted bail, but a case is being prepared against him. Ruggs is accused of having a blood-alcohol level over twice the legal limit in Nevada and faces multiple felony counts. There is also a misdemeanor gun possession charge, as police reported discovering a loaded handgun in his ruined car.

Charges against him carry a mandatory two years if he’s convicted, and possibly more than 50.

If Ruggs is not convicted, it is still highly unlikely that he will ever step foot on an NFL field again. His reputation is in tatters and the public outcry would be too great for any franchise to consider.

Ruggs was a fascinating prospect, that's for sure, and the wide receiver was the fastest player at the 2020 NFL Combine. Ruggs also played for the Alabama Crimson Tide and was mentored by the legendary Nick Saban.

Ruggs had a decent one-and-a-half-year NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders. The speedster was a major threat on the Las Vegas offense, totaling a stat line of 50 receptions for 921 yards and four touchdowns across 30 games played in the NFL.
