Is J.K. Dobbins playing today? Chargers RB's status revealed for Week 17

The Los Angeles Chargers' running back J.K. Dobbins has been sidelined since Week 12 due to a knee injury sustained in the game against the Baltimore Ravens. In his absence, the Chargers have managed a 2-2 record.

As the Chargers gear up for their pivotal Week 17 matchup against the New England Patriots, let's examine Dobbins' availability.

Is J.K. Dobbins playing today?

J.K. Dobbins is going to play in today's game against the New England Patriots. According to Yahoo Sports, the Los Angeles Chargers have activated Dobbins from injured reserve, signaling their intention of letting him play in this crucial game.

Dobbins was a limited participant in Tuesday and Wednesday's training sessions but he was a full participant on Thursday. As a result, he appears to be up to speed and ready to play against the New England Patriots in Foxborough.

While Dobbins is set to contribute from the get-go, the same can't be said about some of his teammates. According to the Chargers' injury report, running back Gus Edwards is out with an ankle injury, linebacker Denzel Perryman will miss the game because of a groin issue and Trey Pipkins will be absent because of a hip injury. Meanwhile, Will Dissly, Hayden Hurst and Elijah Molden are questionable.

How is J.K. Dobbins performing this season?

J.K. Dobbins possesses the qualities of a typical Jim Harbaugh running back. He is a brilliant runner, fearless rusher and above-average pass catcher. He has thrived during the 2024 season, after being released by the Baltimore Ravens a year ago.

Dobbins has accumulated an impressive stat line this season with 158 carries for 766 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He's also added 134 receiving yards. Without his injury in Week 12 against his former team, Dobbins might have reached the 1,000 rushing yards mark.

The Los Angeles Chargers go into Week 17's game against the New England Patriots knowing that a victory will secure their spot in the playoffs. As a result, Jim Harbaugh will be aiming to clinch the win, allowing him to rest a few of his starters in the following game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
