Jayden Daniels will make his preseason debut today against the New York Jets. The Washington Commanders rookie QB has been entrusted with the QB1 position heading into the preseason.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said on Tuesday:
"On the first unofficial depth chart, he is (QB1). He has earned the right to do that. Through all the practices, you are keeping track of completions, accuracy, and decisions regarding where it goes. It was a byproduct of him nailing those moments. Like I said, we are going through the whole process, but it's good to see when there are markers set, you get that one."
Jayden Daniels was the second overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft. He joins the Commanders after an impressive season at LSU, during which he won the Heisman Trophy.

Jayden Daniels enters 2024 with great expectations
Jayden Daniels enters his rookie season as one of the more hyped prospects of his draft class. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner was one of the best quarterbacks in the NCAA, flashing his passing potential and showcasing his elite rushing ability. The Washington Commanders drafted Daniels due to his potential and the belief that he could be a Day 1 starter.
Daniels enters the NFL with expectations and a glowing reputation at the collegiate level. However, thriving at college doesn't necessarily mean he'd be similarly impressive in the NFL. Just take a look at Johnny Manziel, Zach Wilson, and more.
The Commanders will hope that Daniels' rookie season is more like C. J. Stroud rather than Bryce Young. The franchise needs its rookie passer to adapt to the NFL promptly, as his skill set would be crucial to potentially making a postseason push in 2024.
