Is Joe Mixon In Jail?

One of the most important players on the Cincinnati Bengals team for the past few years has been the stellar running back, Joe Mixon. Entering the league in 2017, Mixon now has a fairly good understanding of how the NFL operates and how the running back position is getting sidelined year after year. Consistently great performances each year is the only way to keep the job and hope for a good payday. But with that said, Mixon has brought his fair share of offense for the Bengals and has been an integral part of the team these past few years.

The former Oklahoma Sooners player is known to be a patient running back, who doesn’t mind playing the waiting game until he finally gets an opening from where he likes to burst forward. Selling his run one way while making the small cut the other way to fool defenders is done quite effortlessly adding another dimension to his game. But perhaps his best attribute is his vision down the field which is second to none.

At times the running back position is a tough place to pick up even small yards. Starting approximately five to seven yards behind the line of scrimmage and looking for a gain is already a daunting task in itself, yet Mixon has the strength and size to power his way forward. As for the defense, much more effort has to be put in to bring the big running back down while he tries to inch his way ahead.

On the field, Mixon has been a real find for the Bengals but he will need to improve his consistency and his overall numbers need to go up. However, off the field is a different story as the powerful back has found himself in an ongoing court case for nearly six months now.

What did Joe Mixon do

In a shocking incident which occurred on January 21 2023, Joe Mixon is facing an aggravated menacing charge. Apparently, a woman has accused Mixon of waving a gun at her just one day before the Bengals played the Buffalo Bills in last year’s divisional round.

Initially due to lack of significant evidence, the case was closed as the charges against Mixon were dropped in February. However, after some new evidence came to light, the charges were refiled and Mixon is currently on trial for the same. He has been charged with a first-degree misdemeanor which could have potentially big ramifications if found guilty.

The charges may lead to a maximum prison sentence of 180 days, a maximum fine worth $1,000 and a maximum probation period of five years in Ohio. Even though the case has already dealt a huge blow to Mixon and the Bengals for the upcoming season, further punishment could completely sidetrack his NFL career if he is found guilty.

The trial has been going back and forth for some time now as the victim and the defense attorney are accusing the other for the incident that occurred on 21 January. According to the victim, the woman said that it all started when Mixon cut her off when she was heading to work and then he cussed at her at the traffic light and was very hostile before pulling out his gun.

On the other hand, Mixon’s attorney is redirecting the blame on the victim saying she was the aggressive one shouting cuss words and giving Mixon the finger. As the trial continues to gain momentum, it will be interesting to see how things play out in the future and what implications it will have on Mixon and his career going forward.

Incidentally though, Mixon was involved in another misdemeanor charge when he was in college. In that case, he was charged for punching a woman in her face and breaking her bones. He was suspended for one full year in 2014 and played only two years of college football in 2015 and 2016 before entering the draft for 2017.
