Texans running back Joe Mixon practiced without limitations this week. This clears him for Saturday's matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. His improved mobility during Thursday's practice signaled a strong recovery from last week's ankle injury.

The veteran back, acquired in an offseason trade with the Bengals for a seventh-round pick and signed to a three-year, $27 million extension, has proven his worth. His 910 yards on 217 carries with 11 touchdowns showcase his impact on Houston's offense.

Joe Mixon battled through an ankle injury from an illegal hip-drop tackle during Sunday's 20-12 win over Miami. He still managed to lead the offense with five catches for 33 yards, despite being limited to 23 rushing yards.

"I know my number will be called in a major way, and, when it's called, I'll definitely be ready for it to deliver, man," Joe Mixon said on Thursday. "So, I definitely look forward to everything that's in front of us."

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also received clearance after a high ankle injury;

"He moved around pretty good," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on Thursday . "The guy, he's so mentally tough and it's a mindset that he has going into it."

This season marks a career year for Mixon, who has reached the end zone in eight different games. He's handled 58.5% of Houston's rushing attempts and 69.0% of their red zone carries.

Kansas City presents a formidable challenge, ranking third against the run (91.9 yards per game). Only one rusher has topped 100 yards against them this season, though nine backs have scored touchdowns.

"Yeah, we're starting playoff football right now," Mixonsaid on Thursday. "I've got to be there, and I'm going to be there. I'm going to be there for my teammates and obviously for myself."

His recent performances tell an intriguing story. Before the Miami game, Mixon posted two 100-yard outings against Jacksonville (101 yards, 1 TD) and Dallas (109 yards, 3 TDs), while recording only 22 yards against Tennesse between those two games. These numbers, combined with his career 53.7 rushing yards per game against Kansas City, set the stage for Saturday's crucial contest.
