Exploring Kareem Hunt's availability status for the AFC Championship game
Kareem Hunt is not dealing with any injury concerns ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs' crucial AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills. The star running back is expected to suit up for the matchup.
Kansas City only had four players reported on the injury list this week: guard Mike Caliendo (shoulder), right tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee), cornerback Jaylen Watson (ankle), and quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle). All four players were listed as full participants during the practice week.
The team's only bad injury news of the week was the announcement on Wednesday that wide receiver Mecole Hardman will not be activated from injured reserve. Hardman's 21-day practice window ended without being activated to the 53-man roster, officially ending his season.
Exploring Kareem Hunt's role in the Chiefs' offense
The Kansas City Chiefs have been infamously inconsistent in their use of running backs this season, switching between Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco based on the opponent.
Hunt, though, seems to have been receiving most of the backfield snaps lately. In the victory over the Houston Texans last week, he played 47% of the offensive snaps, compared to Pacheco's 31%.
In the game, Hunt carried on eight occasions for 44 yards and a touchdown, whereas Isiah Pacheco only carried five times for 18 yards. The Chiefs will probably rely on Hunt once more in this week's pivotal game against Buffalo because of his steady efficiency and Pacheco's inconsistency.
Hunt currently seems to be the Chiefs' RB1 by a narrow margin in their packed backfield. He also recorded 728 rushing yards and seven scores during the regular season.
