Kirk Cousins is the man Atlanta Falcons fans have been waiting to see since he signed in free agency. But if they were wondering whether Cousins would play in preseason, that hope will end up as nothing but a pipe dream.
Coach Raheem Morris confirmed to reporters that his new $180 million quarterback will not feature in any of Atlanta's three preseason games. Morris likely has an eye on easing Cousins into action since his troublesome Achilles injury. In Cousins' absence, rookie Michael Penix Jr., who's second on the QB depth chart, will take most of the reps.

Breaking down rest of Falcons' schedule
After the game in Baltimore, the Falcons will head back home for one final preseason faceoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug./ 23 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
After that, the Falcons will open Week 1 by hosting the new-look Pittsburgh Steelers who will likely have Russell Wilson under center despite the QB's recent injury issues.
Weeks 2 and 3 will see the Falcons face their biggest challenges early in the year when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles and defending back-to-back Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. From there, the schedule somewhat eases up with games against the Saints, Bucs, Panthers and Seahawks.
All in all, though, the Falcons are expected to be much more competitive this time around with Kirk Cousins under center. A 7-10 record last year didn't exactly inspire confidence but Raheem Morris has more weapons at his disposal to take over the NFC South, especially after the addition of Justin Simmons. Our algorithm puts the Falcons' playoff chances at 70% entering Week 1.
