Is Lamar Jackson playing tonight? John Harbaugh weighs in on Ravens' preseason plan

Lamar Jackson, who won the AP MVP last season, will not play for the Baltimore Ravens tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles. Baltimore fans may not see Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews, Tyler Linderbaum, Roquan Smith, Marlon Humphrey or Kyle Hamilton, either.

Coach John Harbaugh is known for his cautious exhibition slate approach. Preseason action for most Ravens starters and some of the team's top reserves will be minimal.

Jackson has not played in a preseason game for the Ravens since 2021. The touted quarterback missed the start of training camp this year due to illness. However, he returned to the field last week without issue.

Jackson was healthy in 2023, but it makes sense the team wants to protect him this preseason given his history of injuries.

The Ravens' depth chart lists Josh Johnson as their No. 2 QB, and he should start against the Eagles on Friday. Devin Leary and Emory Jones, two Baltimore rookies, are also likely to see action.

That said, it's unclear if Jackson will see playing time at some point this preseason. During a recent news conference, Harbaugh noted that many of his starters would play later in the exhibition contests.

"We’ll see most of those guys out there — I don’t know about this game if every one of those guys will be out there,” Harbaugh remarked.
