Is Lamar Jackson going to the Broncos? Did Lamar Jackson sign a new contract?

Lamar Jackson; Baltimore Ravens v New Orleans Saints

Lamar Jackson is going to the Denver Broncos. Yes, you heard that right. The Broncos are looking for a boost to what has been, so far, a failed season, and they just took an abrupt left turn.

However, the Baltimore Ravens need not hold their breaths or resort to sobbing. Their crown prince isn't going anywhere. That's because the Broncos are signing 24-year-old cornerback Lamar Jackson, an undrafted free agent who just happens to bear the same name as former NFL MVP Jackson.

The other Jackson (6'2", 208 pounds) will join the Broncos' practice squad. The Broncos are dealing with a few injuries at the position, so the team felt it was wise to dip into the free-agent talent pool.

Who is cornerback Lamar Jackson?

Cornerback Lamar Jackson, until recently, was one of the better corners left in free agency. He played 14 games in two seasons with the New York Jets, racking up 28 tackles. After finishing the 2021 season on the Jets' practice squad, Jackson signed a contract with the Chicago Bears for 2022.

Jackson did a solid job on the Bears and has been in and around the franchise ever since; he gets extra coverage due to his name and has a similar build to his much more famous namesake.

Jackson played in five games with the Bears earlier this year (primarily on special teams) before being waived. Jackson now lands in Denver to provide more depth at cornerback on the Broncos practice squad.

Did Lamar Jackson sign a new contract?

The other Lamar Jackson, who slings touchdown passes across the pond in Baltimore, has yet to sign a new contract. Jackson has not renewed his contract with the only franchise he has played for.

It was reported that he declined the Ravens' $250M extension offer because he wanted a fully guaranteed deal. As such, Jackson will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2022 NFL season. That's a worry for the Ravens and positive news for other teams in the NFL.

How is quarterback Lamar Jackson performing this season?

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Jackson is having a typically excellent 2022 NFL season, one that we've grown to expect from the year five shot caller. Unfortunately, Jackson is in a contract year, and he is mocking the Ravens' hesitance to tie him up on a fully guaranteed contract.

This season, the 2019 league MVP is putting up his annual video game numbers across the board. His stat line reads 2,231 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, and six interceptions in 11 games. He led the Ravens to a 7-4 record to start the season.
