Is Taysom Hill playing tonight? Saints TE's status explored for Week 16 MNF vs. Packers

Taysom Hill tore his ACL when the New Orleans Saints faced the Los Angeles Rams in a Week 13 game on Dec. 1. Late in the second half, he appeared to have been struck by a helmet to his left knee and exited the field.

As he works to rehabilitate from a ruptured ACL and other knee injuries, the 34-year-old tight end is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.

"Taysom got a knee injury. It looks like it's going to be season-ending for him, unfortunately," interim coach Darren Rizzi said on Dec. 2 concerning Hill's injury. "I think he'll probably get a second opinion on some of the stuff, but it looks like it'll be season-ending."

Due to the circumstances, the Saints won't be able to count on their star tight end when they visit the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field.

Additionally, because quarterback Derek Carr is sidelined due to a hand injury, New Orleans will be severely lacking offensively in that game. Rashid Shaheed (meniscus), Chris Olave (head) and RB Alvin Kamara (groin) are all also sidelined.

How has Taysom Hill performed this season?

The most recent injury to Taysom Hill is possibly the most detrimental in the New Orleans Saints' injury-plagued season. While playing tight end, quarterback, fullback and even lining up as a running back, the BYU product is tied for the top spot in the Saints' rushing touchdown totals (six) and second only to Alvin Kamara in rushing yards (278), despite playing only eight games this season.

Hill is now one of just two players in the history of the NFL to have at least 25 rushing touchdowns, 10 passing touchdowns and 10 receiving touchdowns.

This season, he started all eight of his games and amassed 278 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 39 rushes. In addition, he completed two of four passes for 21 yards and has 187 yards on 23 receptions.

Taysom Hill's effort against the Cleveland Browns in Week 11 earned him the honor of NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He recorded eight receptions for 50 yards and seven rushes for 138 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, he returned a kickoff for 42 yards and completed an 18-yard throw.
