Is Tony Pollard playing today? Titans RB's status explored for Week 17 clash vs. Jaguars - Source: Imagn

In Week 17, only a handful of games have any bearing on the playoff picture, especially in the AFC. With only one spot left undecided, most duels between teams from the conference, like the Tennessee Titans taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium, are rather inconsequential.

However, given that it's a divisional battle and several players on the team are chasing bonuses and job security, it could prove to be an intriguing contest. Several fantasy team owners battling for the championship planned to tune into this game to watch running back Tony Pollard in action. However, they were hit with devastating news on Saturday.

Tony Pollard injury update: Is Titans RB playing in Week 17 vs. Jaguars?

Tony Pollard was on the Titans' injury report due to an ankle ailment. He was absent from practice throughout the week but was keen on playing against the Jaguars on Sunday. However, he came down with the flu and hasn't traveled with the team to Jacksonville for his team's divisional duel.

According to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter, the running back is set to miss the game. It's a massive blow for fantasy team owners who have him on their roster and the Titans, who hoped he'd help them end their four-game losing streak.

Tony Pollard stats: How has the RB fared this season?

Tony Pollard has been the silver lining in a disappointing campaign for the Titans. In his debut season in Tennessee, he has had the best year of his NFL career.

The veteran has rushed for a career-high 1,017 yards and five touchdowns. He also has 41 catches for 238 receiving yards. Pollard has put up stellar numbers on a dismal offense, which ranks 25th in the league in points per game, and 27th in yards per game.

The 27-year-old was hoping to cap off a career year with a strong finish. However, the ankle injury coupled with the flu will cost him one of Tennessee's final two games. He'll eye a return to action in Week 18 to help his team pull a season series sweep against the Houston Texans and end the season on a positive note.
