Zach Wilson was traded from the New York Jets to the Denver Broncos. After the Russell Wilson experiment ended, the Broncos sought youth in the quarterback room and considered the former Jet a possible reclamation project. This makes the preseason an important time for him.
He can cement himself as the starter and prove he wasn't at fault for what went wrong in New York. It's his chance to shed the bust label, and the preseason is where he can begin to do that. Is he going to play, though?
Zach Wilson is expected to play today. He will not, however, be the starter. In fact, he's the third string on the depth chart right now. Jarrett Stidham will get reps with the first team. Bo Nix and the second team will come on in relief.

Wilson is behind those two. He should play and he could play the most out of all of them. The starters rarely play more than a couple of series, and Nix is the first-round pick that Denver won't want to risk injury with.

That leaves Wilson likely to get the bulk of the playing time. This is advantageous for him, as it gives him the most opportunity to get into the flow of the game and put together a good performance.
Since he needs a lot of those to climb the depth chart, it's not the worst position to be in to start out. The Broncos haven't expressed how much he will play, but third-string teams usually get a lot of run in preseason games.
