Isiah Pacheco's return from injury couldn't have come soon enough for the Kansas City Chiefs. The running back is one of the key offensive pieces to support Patrick Mahomes, but he missed 10 games this season due to a leg injury suffered in September.

During his absence, Kareem Hunt and Carson Steele were tasked as his replacements, but although Hunt has a long career in the league, neither of them currently offers what the starter running back does. Although he hasn't exploded in his return, he's a solid presence who offers value as both a rusher and a receiver.

Against a strong Los Angeles Chargers defense, his impact was diminished, but he was still their leading rusher on a night where the Chiefs leaned on the running game a lot.

His usage throughout the night was interesting. He finished with 14 carries overall, but they weren't well divided: he had five carries during Kansas City's first drive, which ended in points, but then he had just one carry until the end of the first half, with Hunt getting opportunities to run the ball.

This was never going to be a stellar performance from him. Although the Chargers allow 4.6 yards per carry, they do a solid job of loading the box in specific matchups, and with the Chiefs not offering much of a vertical threat, they tried to limit Pacheco's impact. It worked: he had just 3.8 yards per carry on average.

The Chiefs officially clinched the division on Sunday, making it the ninth straight season with the AFC West crown. As such, they can now change their plans to be at their best during the postseason.

For this reason, it's likely that he'll be getting more carries over the remaining four games to ramp up his load before January comes. That's when it really matters.
