On Saturday, the Cincinnati Bengals hosted the Denver Broncos at Paycor Stadium in a do-or-die game in their quest for a playoff spot.

The Bengals entered the game 7-8, and nothing short of a victory would have sufficed for them to stay alive in the hunt for a postseason berth. With the Los Angeles Chargers thrashing the New England Patriots 40-7 and booking their playoff berth, a victory for the 9-6 Broncos would have eliminated Cincinnati, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Miami Dolphins from postseason contention.

With the season on the line, the Bengals, who have been heavily reliant on their offense, needed superstars like Ja'Marr Chase to step up and deliver against the fourth-stingiest defense in the league. Fortunately, the wide receiver did not disappoint.

Ja'Marr Chase's Stats vs. Broncos in Week 17

Here are Ja'Marr Chase's numbers from the Bengals' 30-24 win over the Broncos on Saturday:

  • Targets: 15
  • Receptions: 9
  • Receiving yards: 102
  • TDs: 0

The wide receiver dueled with cornerback Patrick Surtain II and won it resoundingly. He caught nine passes for 102 yards but couldn't add to his touchdown total.

While Chase had Surtain engaged on one end of the field, it opened space for Tee Higgins to dominate. The wide receiver had his best game of the season, and he caught 11 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns, including the walk-off game-winner late in overtime.

The Bengals' win saw them improve to 8-8 and kept their season alive for at least another week. However, they still need plenty of help to earn a postseason berth. They need the Colts and Dolphins to lose one of their remaining two games and the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Broncos in Week 18.

Cincinnati will also have to win its game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who can win the division title if they beat the Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Cleveland Browns.

Chase, Higgins, and Joe Burrow have kept their team alive heading into Week 18. However, over the next eight days, the ball has to bounce in their favor, which hasn't happened throughout the season.
