Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He is a native of Dalton, Georgia.

Gibbs attended Dalton High School. In his sophomore season, he rushed for 897 yards and scored 10 touchdowns, followed by a junior season where he recorded 1,431 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.

As a senior, Gibbs had 2,554 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. He earned several accolades including being named first team all-state. He was also named the Georgia 6-A 2020 Offensive Player of the Year, and a first team All-American by Sports Illustrated. Gibbs also received an invitation to play in the 2020 All-American Bowl. He concluded his high school career with 4,882 rushing yards and scoring 70 touchdowns.

He was re-rated as a four-star prospect in his senior year. Gibbs garnered interest for recruitment from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama before finally committing to Georgia Tech.

Gibbs missed Georgia Tech's season opener. But he had a standout collegiate debut against Central Florida after returning the opening kickoff for a 75-yard. He performed impressively and included 219 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. This led to him being named as Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Week.

Gibbs earned honorable mention All-ACC honors as a return specialist by the end of the season. He transferred to the University of Alabama and joined the Crimson Tide in 2022. Gibbs notably excelled in a victory against #20 Arkansas on October 1, accumulating 206 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns from 18 carries.

Gibbs concluded the season with 151 rushing attempts, totaling 926 yards and scoring seven rushing touchdowns. He also made 44 receptions, amassing 444 receiving yards, and contributed three receiving touchdowns.
