Jahmyr Gibbs is an American football running back for the Detroit Lions as of the 2024 NFL season. The Detroit Lions selected him as the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Gibbs became one of only three Lions rookies alongside Billy Sims and Barry Sanders to tally more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns in a season (via WXYZ-TV). His sophomore campaign has been off to a great start as he has already accumulated 796 yards on the ground through the first ten games of the 2024 NFL season (via Pro Football Reference).
The Georgia native attended Dalton High School in his hometown Dalton. His high school football career was strewn with achievements as he was named first-team all-state while also winning Georgia 6-A 2020 Offensive Player of the Year honors. The 2023 Pro Bowler concluded his high school career with over 4,800 rushing yards and 70 touchdowns.

Despite receiving offers from several universities, including North Carolina, Michigan, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama, Gibbs stayed committed to Georgia Tech and chose to play college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. However, after spending the initial two seasons at Georgia Tech, he transferred to Alabama and played for the Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2022 season.

Missing Yellow Jacket’s season opener, Gibbs made his debut against Central Florida and concluded the 2020 season at Georgia Tech with 89 carries for 460 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns along with 24 receptions for 303 receiving yards and secured three receiving touchdowns. Additionally, he recorded eight kickoff returns for 205 yards and received an honorable mention All-ACC as a return specialist for his stunning performance.
He concluded the following 2021 season with 143 carries for 746 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns along with 35 receptions for 465 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. In addition, Gibbs recorded his career-high 23 kickoff returns for 589 yards. He also earned a spot on the First-team All-ACC and Second-team All-American.

After transferring to Alabama, he concluded the last season of his collegiate career with 151 carries for 926 rushing yards, and 7 rushing touchdowns along with 44 receptions for 444 receiving yards and securing 3 receiving touchdowns. He was named to the 2022 Second-team All-SEC.
