On Nov. 28, 2020, Jahmyr Gibbs injured his shoulder while playing for Georgia Tech as a freshman. His injury came in a matchup against Duke and then missed the remainder of the college football season.
On Nov. 12, 2022, while playing in his first season for Alabama, Gibbs sprained his ankle in a matchup against Ole Miss. He missed one game due to the problem but then was able to return for the rest of the season.
On Oct. 6, 2023, Gibbs' hamstring flared up shortly before the Detroit Lions hosted the Carolina Panthers in Week 5. He missed two games in his rookie year due to the issue. The running back eventually featured in all of Detroit's other regular season games, including the three playoff matches.
Most recently, Gibbs picked up a hamstring injury on Monday during a practice session with the Lions. However, the team has not released too much information on the player's injury.
Gibbs is tipped as an important offensive player for the Lions. The first-round pick made it to the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, posting 945 rushing yards, 316 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns.
Earlier this month, Gibbs spoke to ESPN about his ambitions for the 2024 season, including his contributions as a receiver.
"A lot of great receiving backs have done that," Gibbs said. "Christian McCaffrey's done that. AK [Alvin Kamara] has been close. Marshall Faulk has done it. I'd like to be in that category. It's only a certain number that's done it."
The Lions will open their 2024 regular season by hosting the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 8. Before that, they have preseason games against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 17 and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 24.
Detroit will hope that Gibbs is able to recover from his hamstring injury before the regular season begins.
