Jahmyr Gibbs was a breakout star on the Detroit Lions offense in the 2023 regular season. The versatile running back was a key contributor to the run game and as a pass catcher for Dan Campbell's side.

Ahead of the Lions' 2024 regular-season opener versus the Los Angeles Rams, let's take a look at Gibbs' fantasy viability and provide an injury update on the Lions RB.

Should fantasy managers be worried about the Lions running back?

No, fantasy football managers should not be worried about Jahmyr Gibbs. Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has indicated that Gibbs will be fit for the team's season opener.

Gibbs thrived in his rookie year while splitting work with David Montgomery. He looks poised to be the undisputed RB1 in Detroit for the upcoming season. Gibbs tallied 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns in his rookie season.

Fantasy football is favorable to running backs that contribute on the ground and in the air. Jahmyr Gibbs is one such running back, and his versatile skill set has given him a prominent role in Dan Campbell's offense.

According to Pro Football Focus, Gibbs' current ADP sits at No. 12 overall. This makes him the RB4 off the board, placing him as a likely first or second-round pick in fantasy drafts.

Jahmyr Gibbs' injury update

Jahmyr Gibbs suffered a hamstring injury in August and it looked like that would put his start to the season in jeopardy. It's worth remembering that a similar hamstring issue forced Gibbs to miss a couple of weeks in the 2023 season.

Thankfully for Lions fans, Gibbs returned to training after the team's final preseason game. Furthermore, Dan Campbell hasn't said anything to indicate that Gibbs will miss time to start the season.

Additionally, on Tuesday afternoon, Jahmyr Gibbs confirmed to ESPN that he was feeling "98-100%" fit after tweaking his hamstring, adding that he feels "more confident overall" in his second year in the league.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit head coach said that the only player that he's concerned about for the season opener is safety Ifeatu Melifonwu. Hence, fans and fantasy football managers can look forward to Gibbs taking the Gridiron.
