The Dalton, Georgia-born Gibbs attended Dalton High School in his hometown, where he led the state with more than 2,500 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns during his senior year for which he was named First-team All-State and Georgia 6-A Offensive Player of the Year. Following this, a three-star recruit opted for the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2020, before transferring to the University of Alabama two years later.
