Williams attended Brigham Young University (BYU) and chose to play college football for BYU Cougars, declining the offer received from Boise State. He played for the Cougars from 2012 to 2016, delivering outstanding performances throughout. Williams set school records with 3,901 rushing yards on 726 carries attempts, sixteen 100-yard games, and a single game with 286 rushing yards.

Williams played from 2012 to 2016 at BYU. He made his college debut with a victory over Washington State in 2012. He concluded the 2012 season with 12 rushing touchdowns, 775 rushing yards along with 27 receptions, recording 315 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown and won the title of Independent Freshman of the Year by College Sports Madness.

For the 2013 season, he recorded 1,233 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 18 receptions, and an additional 125 receiving yards.

For the following 2014 season, he only played in eight games and his season was shortened due to his injury, allowing him to conclude the season with 518 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, eight receptions, and recorded 47 receiving yards.

In 2015, there wasn’t any play to watch for Williams, as he did not play and was redshirted for the season.

He concluded the final season of his collegiate career, leading the independent conference in rushing yards, carries, and touchdowns with 1,375 yards on 234 carries and 12 touchdowns.
