James Conner is an American Football running back for the Arizona Cardinals. The 2014 ACC Player of the Year was taken in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers with their 105th pick. The Erie, Pennsylvania native has played in eight seasons as of 2024. Conner attended McDowell High School in Millcreek Township, Pennsylvania. He was a two-way athlete during his high school days as he played both as a running back and defensive lineman. After completing his secondary education, Conner committed to the University of Pittsburgh to play football for the Panthers in 2013. He went on to play in 39 games for the Panthers during his 4-year tenure, where he totaled more than 3,700 yards on the ground and 412 yards in the receiving game while getting into the endzone 56 times (via Sports Reference).

Conner’s first stint as a pro came with the Steelers back in 2017 and remained with the team until the end of the 2020 season. After not getting the nod as a starter in his rookie campaign, Conner went on to start 33 games in the next 3 years for the Steelers. From a production standpoint, the 2018 season remains Conner’s best in black and gold (via Pro Football Reference). After landing in Arizona in 2021, Conner has managed to put up two seasons of 1k or more rushing yards (2023, 2024) as per Pro Football Reference. The Cardinals locked him for two more years on November 30, 2024, to a contract with an AAV of $9.5 million (via Spotrac).
