James Williams is a safety in football who has entered the 2024 NFL Draft after spending three years playing college football at the University of Miami. The big safety stands at a height of 6 feet 5 inches and was born in February 2003, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Although he towers above most receivers with his huge frame, the former Hurricanes’ safety can still run very well. Plus, he also has a long wingspan which enables him to reach further and pick off passes that normally would have found the hands of the receivers.

William is a hard tackler and coupled with his explosive speed, he is best suited for the run plays. One of his biggest assets is that he can drive back receivers immediately after the ball is caught, preventing any excess yards after the catch. Nevertheless, his big frame also limits him when it comes time to quickly transition and change directions. As a result, he could very well be transitioned to a hybrid linebacker position once he reaches the NFL.

James Williams College

James Williams’ college football career kicked off in 2021 when he as a true freshman took the field for the first time in the Miami Hurricanes jersey. Spending three seasons at the University of Miami, Williams would go on to have an excellent college football career.

As a freshman, Williams earned an honorable mention as an All-ACC. Despite missing the last two games of the season, the big safety still led the team with 2 interceptions and had 31 tackles including a half-tackle for a loss.

As his sophomore season came about, he received more playing time starting 10 of the 11 games which helped him lead the team with 58 total tackles on the season. He also added a tackle for loss, an interception, and six pass breakups in addition to a couple of fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

His junior year in 2023 was more or less similar to his previous season as it was another strong showing. In 12 games, his 73 total tackles were good for the number two spot on the team while he had his usual components of the game such as an interception, a fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, and five pass breakups.

James Williams High School

As a native of Florida, Williams attended high school at American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida where he was an astounding football player. His overall play at the high school level earned him a five-star rating from specialist scouting websites such as 247Sports and Rivals while ESPN also rated him highly giving him a four-star rating.

In high school, many of the top scouting websites continually rated him in the top 5 or top 10 safeties in the country at the time. With all-around stats on defense that included more than 60 tackles, six interceptions, four passes defended, and five forced fumbles among other things in just his junior season alone, Williams was highly sought after by various Universities.

The former Miami safety had scholarship offers from a boatload of top Universities such as Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and several others. However, Williams decided to go to the University of Miami, most probably to stay closer to home.
