The St Louis native went to Cardinal Ritter College Prep School in his hometown and had two back-to-back 1000-yard seasons as a junior and senior respectively. In his junior season, he amassed 1,062 yards on 36 catches while scoring 15 times. His senior season saw his production skyrocket as he went on to catch 68 balls for 1,626 yards along with 22 touchdowns.
He went to the Ohio State University to begin his college football career and played for two seasons with them. He would only start in 6 games in two years with the Buckeyes totaling 15 receptions for 276 yards. He transferred to Alabama in 2021 after the Buckeyes receiver room got crowded.
