Jared Goff played for the California Golden Bears during his collegiate career.
The starting quarterback of the Detroit Lions franchise in the NFL is the eight-year veteran, Jared Goff. He was born on October 14, 1994, in the city of Novato, California which lies about 30 miles north of San Francisco. The tall 6 feet 4 inch quarterback was born to parents Jerry and Nancy Goff and he attended Marin Catholic High School near his hometown in San Francisco. Goff started his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams as he was selected with the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He remained with the Rams for five seasons until the end of 2020. In 2021, Goff was traded to the Lions along with a third-round pick in the 2021 draft, and first-round picks in the 2022 and 2023 drafts for Lions quarterback, Matthew Stafford. As of November 2024, Goff is in his fourth season with the Detroit Lions after guiding the team last year to their first-ever NFC Championship appearance since 1991.
His rookie season with the Rams did not get off to a good start. The franchise was not doing well and Goff was the backup quarterback for the first nine games of the season. Getting his chance to lead the team, Goff was handed the reins of the offense for the last seven games in which the Rams went 0-7. In 2017, the Rams found a new head coach in Sean McVay and the team saw a complete turnaround in fortunes. Going 11-4, the Rams lost in the Wild Card Round to the Atlanta Falcons. 2018 was another great year for the Rams as they went 13-3 and made it to Super Bowl LIII only to lose to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. However, in 2019 and 2020 the team again started to struggle despite Goff producing on a similar level as before prompting the management to look for a change in the upcoming season.
