Jared Goff's Jersey Number
Jared Goff wears the jersey number 16 with the Detroit Lions, as of November 2024. Goff chose this number as a tribute to Quarterback Joe Montana who he had been a fan of since a young age. He has been wearing the no. 16 since his draft in 2016. Goff continued to wear the number 16 with the Lions as he did for five seasons at Rams. According to San Francisco 49ers' official website, Goff explained: “When I was little, for my fourth or fifth birthday, my dad got me a Joe Montana jersey. I didn’t know who Joe was, but when I started playing football we had our number choices and 16 was available. That’s when I was 7 years old. The next year, I wore 16 again. I’ve worn it my whole life.”
At Detroit, Goff follows the footsteps of players like Gary Danielson, Chuck Long and Jack Johnson who had the no. 16 for the Lions back in the day. Goff has been honouring Joe Montana with his no. 16 since his high school days. He also took the number with him when he committed to the California Golden Bears. Goff wore the no. 16 for the Bears from 2013 to 2015.
