NBC Sports analyst Jason Garrett looks on

Former New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett was let go earlier in the year. Last spring, he provided color commentary for NBC's USFL broadcasts.

On Tuesday, June 14, NBC formally announced that the former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys would take Drew Brees' place as a football commentator for the upcoming season. Jason Garrett earns $6 million annually, according to sources.

Garrett succeeded Drew Brees on the most-watched live football show. He presently collaborates in Studio 1 at the NBC Sports International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Connecticut, with host Maria Taylor, analysts Tony Dungy and Chris Simms, and host Chris Simms. While PFT's Mike Florio has continued to cover the day's headlines, co-host Jac Collinsworth and analyst Rodney Harrison have led FNIA's coverage from the game site.

We're not sure if Garrett's career will continue in this direction or if the coaching appetite will return to lure him the following winter. If so, NBC will have to fill a position on their studio set once more.

Jason Garrett led the Dallas Cowboys as head coach from 2011 to 2019, compiling an 85-67 record. Before being sacked in November, he served as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants for the previous two seasons under Joe Judge.

Garrett has never worked as an onsite analyst before. Since his retirement as a quarterback after the 2004 season, he has served as an NFL coaching staff member each year.
