American football wide receiver Jermaine Demetrius Burton was born on June 28, 2001, in Calabasas, California. Burton within a year at IMG Academy decided to move back to Marietta due to personal reasons. However, after the Georgia High School Association changed its rules, Burton was no longer qualified to complete his high school education in Marietta, which was close to his family's house. As a result, he had to explore options outside of Georgia finding his way to his birthplace and transferring to Calabasas High School where he spent his final two seasons.
Burton defeated seniors Jadon Haselwood and Dominick Blaylock, who rank first and fifth among receivers in the 2019 class according to 247Sports composite rankings, to win the wide receiver MVP award at the Opening Atlanta Regional. He was also ranked 8th among wide receivers nationally while 247Sports marked him as a four-star prospect coming out of high school. Moreover, Burton was also included in the Top 150 Dream Team, ranked 99th by ESPN and was invited to The Opening Finals twice.

Jermaine Burton committed to The Georgia Bulldogs in 2020. He played in all 10 games during his freshman season catching 27 passes for 404 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Burton spent two seasons a Georgia ending up with 24 game appearances and totalling 26 catches for 497 yards and five touchdowns and also leading among all wideouts as a sophomore.
Burton chose to transfer to Alabama Crimson Tide receiving a rotational position in his first year.
