The Arlington Renegades opened the XFL season at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Dallas Cowboys are another football team that plays in Arlington. During a broadcast outside Choctaw Stadium, Emmy Award-winning reporter William Joy reminded fans of this point.
During his report, Joy mentioned how great it is to see a football team playing in February.
Joy said:
"Frankly, I think people are just excited to have a team in Arlington that actually plays football games in February."

Joy referenced the fact that the Cowboys have not made it to the Super Bowl since the 1995 season. The closest the team has gotten is to the Divisional Round, in which they are winless in seven appearances. Their most recent appearance was in the 2022 season, losing to the San Francisco 49ers by a 19 - 12 score.
Jerry Jones acknowledged those frustrations when he addressed the media about the Super Bowl drought. He noted that the Cowboys are not the only NFL team dealing with it.
Jones said:
“San Francisco and the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in 25 years. Understand that. San Francisco’s in the same boat.”
While the Cowboys owner does have a point, the 49ers have made it to two Super Bowls since the Cowboys' last appearance in the game. To Joy's point, the Arlington Renegades provided some football in February and the team did not disappoint.

The Renegades defeated the Vegas Vipers by a score of 22-20 in the first game of the XFL season. The game came down to the final possession, when Renegades defensive tackle TJ Barnes sacked Vegas quarterback Luis Perez on a two-point conversion attempt, securing the victory.
The Arlington Renegades, coached by former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, had three takeaways, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns. Both teams were evenly matched for total yards, with the Vipers edging out the Renegades by a 261 to 246 margin.
