Jerry Rice is a former professional American footballer who played for nine different teams as a quarterback in the NFL. Rice's professional career started in the year 1985 when he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL draft of 1985.

He signed a deal of 5 years with the 49ers worth $377,000 per year and changed his jersey number from eighty-eight to eighty. He made his official NFL debut in a match against the Minnesota Vikings in 1985 where he recorded 67 yards. Rice recorded the first touchdown of his NFL career in a game against the Atlanta Falcons. After continuing his outstanding performance throughout the season he finished his debut season with 49 catches, for 927 yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns and was named the NFC Rookie of the Year. He started his second season against the Los Angeles Rams and in the following game, he had six receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers ended the 1986 season with a 10-5-1 record and Rice was named to the Pro Bowl. Rice scored a receiving touchdown in every game he performed in the 1986 season and became the first wide receiver to receive the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Before the 1988 season, he signed a deal of five years with the 49ers worth $5.05 million. In Super Bowl XXIII in a 20-16 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals Rice had an 11-reception, 215-yard performance with a touchdown and because of his brilliant performance, he was named the Super Bowl MVP. Rice continued his brilliant performance in the subsequent seasons where he was able to reach new heights in his career. Rice was released by the 49ers in June 2001.

In 2001 Jerry Rice signed a deal of four years with the Oakland Raiders of worth $7.8 million. Rice requested the Raiders to trade him and he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks. He retired on September 5, 2005, and In August 2006 he signed a one-day contract with the 49ers which allowed him to retire as a member of the team where his NFL career began.
