James Joseph Harbaugh, popularly known as Jim Harbaugh is an American football head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers of the NFL. The 6 ft 3 head coach was a signal caller for Palo Alto High School before making his way to the University of Michigan where he spent 5 years. After getting selected in the first round of the 1987 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Chargers, he spent his first seven years with the Bears. After appearing in 89 games for Chicago, Jim signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 1994 and played in 54 games for that franchise (via Pro Football reference). Later in his career, Harbaugh also played for the San Diego Chargers (Los Angeles Chargers) and Baltimore Ravens before hanging up his boots as a Carolina Panthers member.

The Toledo, Ohio native started his second career as a coach when he was still in the NFL by being an offensive consultant at Western Kentucky University under his father Jack Harbaugh, head coach of the Hilltoppers at the time. The 61-year-old (as of January 2025) got his first breakthrough in the NFL in 2002 when the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders) signed him as their quarterbacks coach. After spending two years with the Raiders, Jim was awarded head coaching duties at the University of San Diego. Jim’s next stop came at Stanford, where he led the Cardinals from 2007 to 2010 before moving to the Bay Area in 2011 to coach the San Francisco 49ers. With the latter, the younger Harbaugh made the playoffs in three out of four years, taking them to a Super Bowl once. However, his most impressive coaching stint came with the Michigan Wolverines, whom he led to three straight Big Ten Conference championships from 2021 to 2023, including a 2023 national championship. Jim finally headed to California again in 2024 to serve as the head coach of LA Chargers in 2024. By the end of the 2024 NFL season, Jim led the Bolts to an 11-6 record, good for second in the AFC West.
