James William Johnson, better known as Jimmy Johnson, is an American sports analyst and former football coach. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School (now Memorial High School) in Port Arthur, Texas. Johnson played collegiate football as a defensive lineman at the University of Arkansas from 1962 to 1964. However, he went undrafted in the 1965 NFL Draft.
Johnson was a head football coach in college from 1979 to 1988 and in the NFL for nine seasons. In the NFL, he began his coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys in 1989. After his stint with the Cowboys, he coached the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999. As a head coach, Johnson won two Super Bowls (XXVII, XXVIII) and was named AP NFL Coach of the Year in 1990. After leaving the Dolphins, he returned to TV as a studio analyst for Fox Sports and is a part of the Fox NFL Sunday team, as of February 2025.
