Joe Flacco or Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields - whom to fantasy start?

Joe Flacco is expected to start an NFL game again on Sunday, when his Indianapolis Colts visit Trevor Lawrence's winless Jacksonville Jaguars. They are coming off a strong win against the erstwhile-undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers of Justin Fields, who also figures to be part of this fantasy football debate as he prepares for a mostrous showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.

So who among these three possesses the best fantasy value? This comparison aims to find out.

There is one reason why Joe Flacco is a Colt: to fill in for and mentor sophomore Anthony Richardson, who has been struggling with injury throughout his career. First, it was a shoulder that cost him much of his rookie season; now it is an oblique injury that threatens to exclude him from this week's game.

Even as he nears his 40's, he has shown that he can still perform at a high level. This was proven last season when he was adjudged Comeback player of the Year after helping the Cleveland Browns reach just their third postseason since reactivation.

The Jaguars have two players who can stop him: edge rushers Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. But beyond them, the secondary lacks star power and impact play.

Trevor Lawrence is struggling. That cannot be understated enough. The Jaguars have yet to win in four games ahead of an important intradivisional clash.

The good thing for him is that the team he is facing has a rather shallow defense that boasts just two Pro Bowlers - neither of whom are pass rushers. That means his weapons - running back Travis Etienne; wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr., Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis and Devin Duvernay; and tight ends Evan Engram and Brenton Strange - will have plenty of opportunities to accumulate yards and points.

Justin Fields was not supposed to find success as a Steeler. After all, he was positioned as the backup to Russell Wilson, studying the game further ahead of 2025, when he would hit the open market.

Then a leg injury to the former Super Bowl champion derailed those plans. Suddenly, Fields was back on the field. And he has made the most out of it - leading the team to a 3-1 record, with the only loss being at the aforementioned Colts.

But his surprising run may end at the Cowboys, who boast a star-studded defense that can neutralize him. DeMarcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons, Eric Kendricks Trevon Diggs - all of them are Pro Bowlers who are capable of frustrating him and his weapons.

By a significant margin, Justin Fields is the most viable player to start on your fantasy team, according to Sportskeeda's Start/Sit tool.

With Joe Flacco and Trevor Lawrence neutralizing each other, it makes him a very intriguing one to add to a fantasy team. The Cowboys do pose a defensive challenge, but he has a decent supply of weapons to overcome that: running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, wide receiver George Pickens, and tight end Pat Freiermuth.

The only question is whether his offensive line can continue their stellar blocking against one of the more talented front sevens in pro football.
